Welcome

Invitation to participate in the 13th World Congress of the International Photodynamic Association in Innsbruck, Austria

It is a great honour and pleasure for me to organize the 13th World Congress of IPA in Innsbruck - 10th – 14th May 2011.

The scientific program selected by the international scientific committee will incorporate all photodynamic aspects including oncological and non-oncological applications as well as novel developments and future perspectives regarding chemical, biological, molecular, biophysical and medical aspects with the focus on their translation into the daily clinical practice. Specially designed platforms and workshops will be put on for practical information and clinical applications. Clinical studies will receive particular attention.

For the first time the world congress will be held in association with EPPM (European Platform for Photodynamic Medicine) and HNODS (Head and Neck Optical Diagnostics Society) to enhance the interdisciplinary aspects of photodynamic applications.

While the various topics will be presented by internationally acknowledged experts, broad space will be given to short communications and poster discussions. Students and young researchers are especially welcome.

Industry plays an important role in supporting basic and clinical research and its translation to patient care. Therefore, hands-on workshops promoted by the industrial partners will be integrated in the program.

The structure of the 13th IPA congress will allow for an in-depth, yet relaxed discussion of state-of-the-art knowledge in our field. The atmosphere of the congress in the beautiful city of Innsbruck with its exciting surroundings will be an ideal platform to establish new contacts and refresh friendships.

You are invited to actively participate and interact with this congress to make it a successful one and ensure that photodynamic medicine is promoted and acknowledged even further.

Innsbruck has a lot to offer and its numerous sights are almost all in walking distance. This alpine city is settled amidst impressive mountains famous for whole season skiing and hiking activities. It is the place where the Olympic winter games were held twice. During May Innsbruck weather is usually very pleasant and visitors enjoy the picturesque Alpine scenery with its large variety of flora and fauna.  We promise to organize an exciting social program combining gastronomical, cultural and mountain highlights but also a visit to the famous Swarovski Crystal Worlds or to the glass factory of Riedl.

The organizing committees, the Medical University of Innsbruck and myself are looking forward to welcoming you to Innsbruck in May 2011!
